What is AETN Digital Screeners? AETN Digital Screeners is an application that allows you to download screeners for viewing on your PC or laptop. The application is powered by Maven Networks software.
Who is Maven Networks? Maven Networks is the broadband media software company that powers the AETN digital screener system.
Is this spyware? Maven is not spyware, and doesn’t track a users’ computer behavior outside of the AETN application. Usage (playback of the video, shares and interactions) within the AETN experience is monitored by A&E Networks only and is kept confidential.
Is Maven for broadband users only? Yes, Maven has been designed specifically for broadband. It relies on the always-on, high-speed nature of broadband connections, such as DSL, cable modem, T1, or satellite, to pre-deliver interactive video applications to users at work or home.
Is AETN Digital Screeners easy to install? Yes, the installation is simple. The software is less than 1MB in size and takes fewer than 2 minutes to download and install over a typical high-speed connection. If you have any issues installing, please send us an email.
Can I install AETN Digital Screeners on XP SP2? AETN Digital Screeners is supported on XP SP2. After clicking on "Install AETN Screeners" a popup will appear with a Microsoft warning displayed on the top saying, “This site might require the following ActiveX control…” Click on this toolbar and select "Install ActiveX control…" The ActiveX Security Warning will appear, click "Install" to proceed. Continue with the rest of the installation.
Can I change the drive space where the programs get stored? When you first install you can pick the drive you want to install to if you have more than one drive. After the End User License Agreement, there will be a screen that says we are installing to the drive with the most space available but there is a link that says, "Click Here" if you want to change drives. Once the application is installed you can't change the drive unless you uninstall and reinstall. Can I download screeners to a temporary drive (ie. USB)? Temporary Drives will not show up as an option on the "Choose Drive" screen, we do not allow users to install to a temporary drive because it causes problems when the temporary drive is removed.
Is the system MAC-compatible? Not yet. Please email us if you're interested in the MAC version and we will keep you updated of the progress.
Everything seems to be installed properly but my screeners do not download. The downloading bar makes no progress... Your Windows Media Player needs to be updated before it tries to download any licensed films. Try the following: step 1. Click Start -> Programs -> Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs step 2. Select AETN Screeners and click Change/Remove step 3. When the ‘Uninstall Maven’ pop-up appears, click Continue (If it doesn’t appear, let me know and we will uninstall the program manually) step 4. Open Internet Explorer and click Tools -> Internet Options step 5. Under Temporary Internet Files, click the SETTINGS button and then click the VIEW OBJECTS button step 6. Delete 'InstallerAX Class' and then close everything out step 7. Go to the following url and download Windows Media Player 9 for Windows 2000 (the second download button): http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/9series/player.aspx. When the installation is complete, reboot your machine. When you come back up, reinstall AETN from the following url: http://aetn.a.maven.net/mvms/vfs/AETN/Screeners/live/install/site/site.html.
What is the purpose of the AETN Digital Screeners Message Center? The Message Center alerts you when the application has been installed and new screeners have arrived.
How do I launch AETN Digital Screeners once it is installed? AETN Digital Screeners can be launched in a variety of ways. There is an AETN icon on the desktop, double click this to start the client. The AETN icon is also in the system tray in the lower right corner of the screen. Click on the icon and then select Show Player. Lastly, click on the Start menu, then Programs and select AETN Screeners.
How long will it take me to get the screeners? Programs vary in length from 30 minutes to 2 hours. For a typical broadband connection of 3 Mbps, the approximate time to download a 30 minute screener will be 6 minutes and a 2 hour screener will be 23 minutes. Your actual download time will vary based on your connection speed and network congestion.
Do you need to be online to view a screener? No, once AETN Digital Screeners has successfully downloaded a new screener, it functions in an offline mode. In cases where interactive features rely on a live Internet connection, such as "Get More Information" or a link to a website, these features will not function offline. Can I view screeners on a TV screen by wiring a laptop to the tv? You can view screeners on a TV if you have a laptop with an S video out jack, and a TV with an S video input jack.
Can I burn the programs on a CD-Rom or DVD? No, all programs are protected by a Digital Rights Management system.
Can I advance to different chapters, fast-forward or rewind? AETN Digital Screeners allows the user to skip to a particular chapter by clicking on the chapter links shown below the video. You can also use the video progress bar shown in the lower left corner to fast-forward or rewind. However, you will not be able to use the chapter links, fast-forward or rewind until the video has been fully downloaded.
How can I resize AETN Digital Screeners? You can resize the AETN window in several ways. You can minimize or maximize the screen by clicking on the icons that are located in the upper right corner of the window. You can also resize AETN Digital Screeners by dragging the frame to the desired size.
How can I control the volume? Use the volume controls on your PC or the volume control located on the bottom right-hand corner of AETN application.
How can I purchase a show if I like it? To order a screener, click the "Order Program" link associated with a screener. The AETN International website will open to the corresponding web page where you can place your order.
How do I control the cache size on AETN Digital Screeners? The cache size is the amount of space reserved on your machine for video files. To change the cache size, go to "My Video Library" (found in the upper right corner of the player). Click on the “limit the size” link to change the size of your cache.
How do I delete screeners? To delete a screener, go to My Video Library (found in the upper right corner of the player). Find the screener you want to remove and click on Delete From Library. Click OK when the confirmation window appears.
What do I do if a screener expires? A screener is available for 30 days. Once the screener expires, you will need to download the screener again.
Can I send a screener to someone else? Yes, click on "Share with a colleague". An invitation email will be sent to your colleague, he/she will need to (1) have access to the affiliate website (2) click on the "watch screener" link, (3) download the application (if they haven't done so already)
How do I uninstall AETN Digital Screeners? You can uninstall AETN Digital Screeners from the Add/Remove programs area of the Control Panel. The control panel can be found in different areas depending on your operating system. XP users will find the Control Panel when they first click on the Start menu. Other users will need to click on Start, then Settings and finally Control Panel. Once in the Control Panel, click on Add/Remove Programs. Click on Maven and then Remove. This will remove all the files from your system.
I've noticed that applications are running much slower than usual on my PC You can pause all downloads by clicking on the icon on your system tray (lower right of your screen, next to the time) and choosing "pause all downloads". We recommend downloading screeners during lunch or afterwork.
How much disk space is required on a user’s machine for AETN Screeners? AETN Screeners requires 2 Gb. of space; however, you can change this amount once you have installed.
What are the minimum system requirements to run AETN Screeners? Users must have a high-speed Internet connection and meet these minimum system requirements:
Windows XP, 2000, ME or 98 Second Edition Windows Media Player 7.1, 8 or 9 DirectX 7, 8 or 9 300kbps broadband Internet connection or better 2 Gigabyte of space on your hard drive Pentium III 500 Mhz processor or better 128 Megabytes of RAM
